I’m disabled but under 60 years old, can I access your services?
Manchester Care & Repair’s services are aimed at older and vulnerable people. If you are under sixty years old but have a disability we may be able to provide services to you. Please contact us for more information.

I live outside of Manchester and Wigan Borough can you help me?
Manchester Care & Repair provides services to older and vulnerable people living in Manchester (i.e. you pay your Council Tax to Manchester City Council).  Wigan Borough Care & Repair provides services to older and vulnerable people living in Wigan Borough (i.e. you pay your Council Tax to Wigan Borough Council).  If you do not live in either of these areas neither Manchester nor Wigan Borough Care & Repair can provide a service to you. However, you can visit www.foundations.uk.com to find contact details for your local Home Improvement Agency.

What will using Care & Repair cost me?
Many of the services provided by Care & Repair are free of charge. Please see the individual service pages on this website for full cost information. If your case does mean a charge will be applied you will always be fully informed from the outset.

How long will you be coming to see me for?
Every client has different needs and requirements- so this question can’t be answered here! Every client will be informed of timescales when they engage our services.

Are you Social Services – will you be looking at putting me in a ‘home’?
No, we are not Social Services. Care & Repair is an independent not-for-profit organisation that works to help older and vulnerable people to stay independent at home for as long as they want or are able to. So, if you wish to stay at home we will assist you in doing that as far as we can. If you would like to look at other housing options we are also able to advise you to help you make your own decisions.

Do you do housework & shopping?
No, we don’t undertake housework or shopping, but we are able to signpost you on to organisations or companies that can help you with this.

How do I know that the contractors you give me contact details for are reputable?
Before a contractor gets on our lists we get two character references for them and ensure they have correct insurance cover. Then after every job a contractor does for one of our clients we get feedback. If our staff find a contractor difficult to deal with our clients aren’t happy with the work they complete we remove them from the list. If you do have a problem with work carried out by one of our contractors we can help you resolve the issue.

Can you get me a grant?
As a general rule, no. Given the current economic climate grants are few and far between, except in extreme and immediate health and safety circumstances. We are happy to explain grant criteria to you, but you should be aware that it is unlikely you would qualify for a grant apart from in extreme circumstances.

If you get me extra benefits, who do you tell?
Nobody, unless you ask us to.

Do you tell my GP or family that you’re helping me?
We sometimes ask for GP and next of kin details in case of an emergency, but we will only contact them if we fail to be able to get in touch with you, if something happens to you, or if you ask us to.

How many jobs can I get done under the HandyHelp scheme?
As many as you want or need. However, we have a general rule of one visit per job. So, if you have a number of jobs waiting for completion they may not all be dealt with at once and you may have to wait for our staff to visit you again. This allows as many people as possible to use HandyHelp.

What jobs can I get completed under the HandyHelp scheme?

I would like to book either Healthy Homes training or Child Safety training for my organisation, what steps should I take?
We employ a qualified provider of training and we are happy to work with your organisation to meet your needs. Please call us on 0161 872 5500 to discuss your requirements.

I’m not happy with the service you have provided, what should I do?
We are extremely sorry that you’re not 100% satisfied with the service provided by Care & Repair. Please see our Complaints Policy for further information about the process involved.
