Steps to Safety

Our Home Safety Assessor will make an appointment to visit you at home (we always strive to fit in with our clients’ arrangements) to carry out a home safety check and may recommend the installation of the following safety measures to prevent falls:
- Additional stair banister/ hand rails
- Grab rails for both inside your home (by your bath or shower) and outside your home (by your front or back door)
- Non-slip bathmats and shower mats
- Smoke alarms
- Carpet trims
- Low energy light bulbs
- The securing of flexes and cables
- Power-down plugs
- Long shoehorns
All of the above equipment is free of charge to any Manchester resident aged sixty or over. You do not have to have a disability or be on a means-tested benefit to request safety equipment from Manchester Care & Repair, our aim is to reduce falls and trips in older people whatever their income!
Once we have visited your home and established which safety equipment you would like, one of our Handypeople will visit you and fit the equipment for you at a time convenient to yourself.
We are also able to offer you information and advice about home security and can signpost you on to other services that can provide you with free locks and other security equipment.
