Manchester Independent Living Service
Do you live in Manchester? Are you aged 60 or over, an owner-occupier or living in privately rented accommodation? Do you need help to make it easier for you to stay living independently in your own home?
This free home-visiting service provides short term assistance, signposting and information to older people who want to remain in their own home and we will tailor a package of support to meet your needs. The type of help we can offer is very wide-ranging and can include the following (but this is not an exhaustive list!):
- Making applications for, or giving you advice on, welfare benefits to which you are entitled but not claiming
- Arranging for aids and adaptations to your home (things like walk-in showers, grab rails or other aids – for example, advice about products that can help you deal with arthritis), which may improve mobility and reduce the risk of falls
- Arranging for you to have help with cleaning or shopping
- Accompanying you on visits to hospital or escorting you to GP appointments
- Providing information about different types of accommodation, like sheltered housing, flats or retirement homes
It may even be that you are just “lost”, confused or in need of someone to listen and support you with your concerns or worries. It doesn’t matter whether you own your own home, rent privately or live in sheltered accommodation – MILS is here for you!
