Caseworker Service

Do you live in Manchester? Are you aged 60 or over? Do you need help to make it easier for you to stay living independently in your own home?

This free home-visiting service provides short term assistance, signposting and information to older people who want to remain in their own home and we will tailor a package of support to meet your needs.  The type of help we can offer is very wide-ranging and can include the following (but this is not an exhaustive list!):

  • Making applications for, or giving you advice on, welfare benefits to which you are entitled but not claiming
  • Arranging for aids and adaptations to your home (things like walk-in showers, grab rails or other aids – for example, advice about products that can help you deal with arthritis), which may improve mobility and reduce the risk of falls
  • Providing information about different types of accommodation, like sheltered housing, flats or retirement homes
  • Helping you with any issues with your energy bills, including finding you a better deal.

It may even be that you are just “lost”, confused or in need of someone to listen and support you with your concerns or worries. Call us to see how we can help.

You can refer yourself to this service if you are over 60, live in North Manchester and are registered with a GP in North Manchester. (Ancoats and Clayton, Bradford, Charlestown, Cheetham, City Centre, Crumpsall, Harpurhey, Higher Blackley, Miles Platting and Newton Heath, and Moston wards).

If you live in any other part of the city, you need to be over 60 but can only be referred to this service by a health / social care professional. Please contact us if you have any queries regarding referrals.

* The Energy Support service is available to anyone over 60 across Manchester, you do not need to be referred in.
