Elderly residents meet Lord Mayor

One of Clayton’s oldest residents, who is still living independently in her own home, met the Lord Mayor Councilor Mavis Smitheman last week at an event hosted by Manchester Care & Repair.

Mrs. Alice Morrow, aged 95, assisted the Lord Mayor in selecting the winning ticket from hundreds of responses submitted to Care & Repair by their clients.

The Lord Mayor, whose focus during her year in office is valuing the contribution of older people, enjoyed meeting staff and clients of Care & Repair. “As a Councilor, I have sent many people to Care & Repair for help” she said.

Mrs. Morrow thanked staff at Care & Repair for being “like a telephone directory of help when I need it”. Mr. and Mrs. Ryan from Blackley drew the other tickets. Mr. Richard Ryan said, “At my age it is so important to have help with practical things in the house. I am often on the phone to Care & Repair. Brian, one of their Handypeople, is always ready to do small jobs around the house”.

Manchester Care & Repair is celebrating its 18th year of helping Manchester residents this year. They can be contacted on 0161 872 5500 or at mail@careandrepair-manchester.org.uk
