New Lord Mayor congratulates award winning local charity

The newly installed Lord Mayor of Manchester, Cllr Mark Hackett, recently helped a local charity celebrate winning a prestigious national award.

Manchester Care & Repair, a local Home Improvement Agency, has recently been awarded the Foundations ‘Excellence in delivering handyperson services 2009’.

The celebration was marked by an event at The CUBE Gallery and was attended by the Lord Mayor, Tony Lloyd MP, guests from the statutory authorities and valued clients of Care & Repair. Sharing the celebration were the Executive Member for Neighbourhood Services, Cllr Paul Andrews, and Executive Member for Adult services, Cllr Glynn Evans, who both described the benefits of the handyperson service which is funded by Manchester City Council.

Manchester Care & Repair, a not-for-profit organisation, assists older and vulnerable people to live independently in a safe, warm and secure home. The award was given for recognising the value that a handypersons service can make to people who find it difficult to undertake the numerous small jobs that crop up around the home.

Receiving the award, Janette Linacre – Services Director – said, “We are delighted to receive this award; we have been delivering a handyperson service in Manchester for many years and it is nice to think that the efforts of our staff and the value of the service to our clients has been recognised”.
