Handyperson Home Safety Operative (Ref: HHSO)

Salary: £20,443 – £22,129 per annum plus mileage and tool allowance

37 hours per week (Mon – Fri)

Volunteering – Volunteer ‘Handy Helpers’ Wanted

Role Purpose

Main duties include:

To work alongside experienced handy people to carry out DIY tasks in people’s homes, enabling completion of 2 person jobs. For example;

  • Footing a ladder
  • Moving furniture
  • Putting up fence panels
  • Carrying tools and materials

We provide a full induction program.

Role Description

  • DIY skills to assist the employed Handyperson (HSSO) Team in delivering a range of Handyperson Services in an agreed area of Manchester:
  • Able to communicate effectively with older and vulnerable people and team members
  • Must adhere to safe working practices in use of tools and materials, personal protective equipment
  • Deliver a professional attitude at all times when representing Manchester Care & Repair

PPE and tools can be provided and you will normally start at the main office so you can travel in another operative’s vehicle.

Safety / risk assessments

  • Need to use safe working practices related to use of potentially dangerous hand tools and power tools, adhesives etc – training provided.
  • Working in the homes of older people – Visual risk assessments to be carried out before undertaking and work – training provided

Attendance

Minimum one day – attendance to be agreed between volunteer and MC&R

Expenses Reimbursed

  • £0.45 per mile when using own vehicle during working day for work purposes, or bus / train / tram ticket
  • Lunch expenses up to £4

Skills and Qualities required

  • Basic knowledge of D.I.Y tasks carried out within home
  • Well organised
  • Ability to listen to instructions provided and respond accordingly
  • Ability to record information accurately
  • Ability to communicate patiently and clearly with older or vulnerable clients
  • An understanding of the limits of the role
  • Two references
  • DBS check
