Wigan Residents get ‘Care & Repair’

Older People in Wigan Borough who are celebrating the “Full of Life” festival will be pleased to hear that they have a new service launching on October 3rd 2011. Wigan Borough residents will have a new free home improvement agency service, which will provide support with arranging home repairs and adaptations through a building contractor, and a handyperson service costing only £15 per visit.

The new service is managed by local voluntary organisation – Manchester Care & Repair and can be contacted by telephone on 01942 239360 and e-mail via mail@careandrepair-wigan.org.uk. The local team called Wigan Borough Care & Repair will be coming out to help older people in their homes from a base at Pennyhurst Mill, Haig Street, Wigan WN3 4AZ

MC&R Chief Exec, Maggie Walker, said: “We are very pleased to have been invited by Wigan Council to develop this service.   Older people tell us how much they need practical help in the home. Thanks to the support of the council there will be a tailored service available locally, delivered with the expertise that MC&R has developed in other parts of Greater Manchester.  We will be working closely with other local services including AgeUK Wigan Borough who will deliver the handyperson service.”
